The majority of people know what THC is, but for those who don't, it is the main psychoactive component of cannabis.
What most people are not aware of is that THC can be classified into three types - delta-9 THC (what most people think of as THC), delta-10 THC, and delta-8 THC.
You will discover everything you need to know about delta-8 THC in this article, including how it works, what makes it unique, and what effects it is likely to produce. m.
Add an answer to this i Delta-8 THC is the abbreviation for Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol. There are more than 100 compounds that are closely related to it within the cannabis plant. These compounds are collectively known as cannabinoids.
Cannabinoids are any molecule (organic or synthetic) which interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Cannabinoids are generally non-psychoactive, which means that they do not cause users to become high. However there are some that do cause psychoactive effects, delta-8 is one of these cannabinoids.
In both the delta-8 and delta-9 forms of THC, active cannabinoids are present.
The endocannabinoids in the brain that regulate our serotonin levels are activated by THC. THC modifies the activity of serotonin, which in turn affects our sense of sight and other aspects of our higher cognitive function.
Three distinct differences distinguish delta-8 THC from delta-9 THC:
Chemical structure: Delta-8 THC is composed of a double bond in the eighth carbon chain rather than the ninth carbon chain.
Effect profile: Delta-8 THC has a more relaxing effect than delta-9 THC and is less likely to produce anxious side effects.
Legality: Delta-8 THC is regulated differently than delta-9 THC, but it is legal in most states (more on this below).
A low concentration of this cannabinoid occurs naturally.
Specifically, delta-8 THC is formed as a byproduct of delta-9 THC, which is much more abundant in cannabis.
In the presence of ultraviolet light and oxygen, delta-9 THC breaks down into CBN (cannabinol). The remainder forms delta 8 THC. The majority of dried cannabis flowers contain less than 1% delta-8 THC.
Exposing the plants to UV light increases the concentration of delta-8 THC. This speeds up the conversion process. After extracting, concentrating, and separating THC into its delta-8 and delta-9 fractions, it can be used as a psychoactive drug.
However, any product derived from plants other than hemp is considered restricted and may not be legal to purchase depending on local laws. In contrast, most Delta-8 products are made from hemp - a completely legal material in all 50 states.
DELTA-8 THC’S PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS
In comparison with delta-9, delta-8 THC is much more smooth and clear-headed. In order to combat the anxiety associated with THC, some people use delta-8 THC instead, which has a more relaxing effect.
It is more energizing to take lower doses of delta-8. During the course of working or studying, many people consume low doses (5-15 mg). The concentration of delta 8 at this dose is designed to induce productive flow states and to increase mental vigor and stamina.
Higher doses produce an even stronger body load similar to the delta-9 form, but at a much higher level of psychoactivity.
You may be wondering whether delta-8 will remain in your system after you discontinue use of this product - if you have used delta-8 products in the past or if you are considering using delta-8 products in the future but are expecting a drug test soon.
This question is best answered in the range of 2 to 30 days.
Obviously, this is a very broad range, but it is true.
Delta-8's ability to remain detectable in the body depends upon a number of factors. Keep reading if you're interested in learning how it works and how you can decrease the amount of time needed to eliminate this substance from your body. We will answer all these questions and more.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF DELTA-8 THC?
The effects of Delta-8 are similar to those of THC, such as mild euphoria, happiness, upliftment, and relief from some symptoms such as pain, although the compound is much less potent. Delta-8 can also help with insomnia.
It may cause side effects similar to those of THC, such as dry mouth, red eyes, the munchies, short-term memory impairment, paranoia, or anxiety. It is important to note that delta-8 has not been extensively studied and more studies are needed on its effects on the body and mind.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST IN THE BODY?
The presence of Delta-8 in the blood or urine can remain detectable for up to 30 days or as short as two days. In order for delta-8 to be completely eliminated from the body, a wide range of factors can either shorten or prolong its elimination time.
In hair analysis, delta-8 THC can be detected for an extended period of time, up to 90 days. Despite this, these tests are rarely employed for drug testing and produce inaccurate results.
There are a number of factors that determine the duration of delta 8's presence in the body:
Frequency of use: As you consume it more frequently, the longer it remains in your body.
Your age: Older individuals tend to have a slower rate of metabolization of compounds.
Method of intake: Delta-8 inhaled forms last the longest in your body.
Metabolism: Metabolic rate varies from person to person.
Your dosage: The higher the dose, the longer it takes to break down & eliminate of delta-8
Other supplements or medications: other supplements decrease the speed of breaking down the compound and elimination of delta-8 in your body.
DELTA-8 THC HALF LIFE
Delta-8 THC undergoes two distinct metabolic phases - a rapid and a slow phase. A portion of delta-8 THC is already being cleared from the body within one minute of taking the drug. Once this occurs, metabolism slows significantly. Delta-8 has a half-life of approximately 32 minutes during the slow phase.
In other words, it takes approximately 30 minutes for exactly half of the delta-8 THC to be metabolized - leaving behind just over half of the initial dosage. Approximately 30 minutes later, 50% of this dose has been cleared - leaving 25% of the original dose. The process continues until nothing remains.
Listed below is a timeline of delta-8 THC's half-life to illustrate how certain levels can remain in the body for longer periods of time or for a shorter period of time, depending upon the half-life.
FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE DURATION OF DELTA-8 THC
1. FREQUENCY OF USE
As you use delta-8 THC more frequently, it will take longer for your body to remove it.
Similarly, other cannabinoids, including CBD, possess similar properties.
Because cannabinoids are fat-soluble, they can be absorbed by fat cells in the body. Cannabinoids like delta-8 can accumulate in our fat cells (adipocytes) when we use them in high doses or for a long period of time.
Upon stopping their use, these accumulations slowly begin to flow back into the bloodstream, causing the body to take longer to eliminate these compounds completely.
If you use Delta-8 once or twice per week, you should be able to eliminate the compound completely in about a week.
When used five to six times per week (or more), delta-8 may be detectable in the blood for a few weeks before it disappears from the body.
2. BIOLOGICAL AGE
Our metabolism slows down as we age. Physicians take into account this well-known phenomenon when prescribing medications.
It may take up to 6 days for a person in their 60s or 70s to clear the same amount of delta-8 from their body, compared to three days in their 20s or 30s.
The truth is that there are plenty of people in their 70s and 80s who are able to eliminate compounds such as delta-8 just as quickly as younger adults.
3. METHOD OF CONSUMPTION
Delta-8 is metabolized differently depending on how it is taken.
Delta-8 exercises its effects much more quickly when inhaled (within minutes), and it is also cleared from the body much more rapidly.
Although there have not been any official studies comparing the metabolism of delta-8 and different ingestion methods, there has been a significant amount of research conducted on THC's delta-9 form as well as another related compound known as CBD.
One study found that inhaled or smoked CBD was cleared from the body nearly twice as fast as ingested CBD. Injection of delta-8 via intravenous administration (IV) was the fastest way to eliminate it - but this is not the most common (or recommended) method regardless of experience.
4. GENETICS & METABOLISM
How quickly substances like delta-8 are eliminated from the body is largely determined by the genetics and metabolic rates of each individual.
Delta-8 and other substances are metabolized primarily by the liver.
The liver breaks down each substance into smaller inactive metabolites based on the chemical structure of the target substance. The kidneys then eliminate these waste products from the body.
The enzymes can be viewed as various tools, and the correct tool should be used for the job at hand.
You would not want to use a wrench to hammer a nail or a screwdriver to cut wood. In order to be effective, only a tool specifically designed for the task at hand will suffice.
The concept is identical to that of liver enzymes.
A specific enzyme responsible for delta-8 is known as CYP3A4. Depending on the ratio of this particular enzyme in the liver, some individuals have less of this enzyme than others, so it will take all the longer for delta-8 to be metabolized.
5. DOSAGE USED
Whether it is common sense or not, it should be noted that the higher the dose of delta-8, the longer it will take to eliminate it.
Due to delta-8's relatively short half-life, increasing the dose will only affect the duration of the substance's presence in the body by a few hours as opposed to a few days.
6. SUPPLEMENTS & MEDICATIONS
Our liver is responsible for metabolizing several supplements and medications we consume. It is possible that they will compete with each other for the same set of enzymes, causing the process to become slower and slower.
Taking our tool example from earlier - consider the case where there is only one saw. The cutting work will be able to be completed as long as it is done one at a time. Nevertheless, if two, three, or more jobs begin to arrive simultaneously, we will not be able to keep up. There will begin to be a backlog of jobs coming in making these jobs have to wait till the saw becomes available.
It occurs with supplements as well.
The CYP3A4 enzyme is the major metabolizer of delta-8. If we use other substances that are dependent on the same enzymes, both will metabolize at a slower rate.
It is unfortunate that the CYP3A4 enzyme is in high demand; many medications and supplements rely on the enzyme for proper metabolism.
CAN DELTA-8 THC MAKE ME FAIL A DRUG TEST?
You may be considering an upcoming drug test if you are reading this article.
In reality, it is entirely possible that delta-8 will cause a failure on a drug test. It is likely that delta-8 will be detected in a urine test or blood test as long as it is detectable in the body.
Although delta-8 is legal on a federal level in the United States, standard drug tests may be unable to distinguish it from the nearly identical delta-9 version. Most states prohibit the use of Delta-9 THC.
It is sensible to avoid using delta-8 THC if you need to undergo a drug test for any reason.
SUMMARY: DELTA-8 THC METABOLISM & DURATION
If you have used delta-8 THC only once or twice, it will remain in your system for approximately two days.
Delta-8 may take between 2 and 4 weeks for your body to completely get rid of it if you take it frequently or in high doses.
It has been reported that traces of delta-8 THC in the hair have been detected up to 90 days following consumption.
It will take a longer time for delta-8 to leave the body if it is used frequently. Additionally, factors such as your age, weight, and the addition of supplements and medications can affect the amount of time it takes to metabolize delta-8 THC.

The ideal dosage of the delta-8 compound has not been well studied.
In general, delta-8 has an equivalent dose of about twice that of its delta-9 counterpart.
The most commonly used doses of delta-8 THC can be split into three doses:
Low dose — 5-20 mg
Moderate dose — 20-40 mg
Strong doses — 40-60 mg
Due to the fact that a given dose can have different effects on different individuals, it is important to start with a low dosage and then increase in strength once you are familiar with how this cannabinoid affects your body.
In some respects, Delta-8 THC is in a state of limbo legal wise.
Delta-9 THC is specifically listed as a controlled substance by the United States federal government, however the delta-8 isomers are not.
In accordance with the 2018 Farm Bill, any product made from hemp (Cannabis sativa) producing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC is legal. It is important to note that these include delta-8 THC products made from hemp, but not delta-8 products made from marijuana (Cannabis sativa that contains greater than 0.3% THC).
As stated above, there are a few states that have adopted legislation that specifically prohibits delta-8 THC along with all other forms of THC (natural and synthetic).
STATES WHERE DELTA-8 THC IS BANNED:
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Colorado
Delaware
Idaho
Iowa
Kentucky
Louisiana
Maryland
Mississippi
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada
North Dakota
Rhode Island

1. DELTA-8 THC TINCTURES
Most cannabinoids are consumed through tinctures and oils today. In addition to their cost effectiveness, sublingual tablets provide rapid onset of effects and precise dosing.
The oil or tincture is sublingually absorbed if held under your tongue. The delta-8 is transported directly into the bloodstream through a series of tiny blood vessels. As a result, the effects of the treatment will be felt much more quickly than if the oil was simply swallowed.
Make sure you’re familiar with the potency of the tincture you buy — they come in many different forms and potencies. The same amount of oil from one product may be way too strong when taken from a different label depending on the potency of the oil.
2. DELTA-8 THC CAPSULES
Delta-8 oil or distillate is usually injected into a dissolvable gel capsule base, which then disintegrates into the oil or distillate. You can take them at the same time as the majority of your other supplements, making them convenient.
The capsule form is best suited to those who require a consistent dose of delta-8 THC on a regular basis. There is no need to calculate and measure oils since every capsule is identical.
3. DELTA-8 THC TABS
The Delta-8 tab offers all of the same advantages as the Delta-8 capsule - pre-measured doses, fast absorption, long shelf-life, and no pronounced hemp flavor.
Many people prefer tablets to capsules because they’re simply a more enjoyable way to get all the same benefits. When you suck on them, they provide a pleasant texture that melts in your mouth. They come in different fruity flavors as well as mint.
Take care not to consume too many tabs. The deliciousness of these candies will make it easy for you to come back for more, however, please keep in mind that Delta-8 can be quite strong if taken in excess. Be sure you understand the dosage of Delta-8 in each tab and follow the instructions listed above.
4. DELTA-8 CARTRIDGES
The lungs are an efficient pathway for the absorption of cannabinoids, such as delta-8.
The majority of people do not smoke but instead use vaporizers. As a result of smoking, you are damaging your lungs and destroying many of the active ingredients you are trying to consume.
There is a cartridge version of Delta-8. Cartridges are used by connecting them to a battery that is suitable for the cartridge. The batteries heat and vaporize the distillate which allows you to inhale it. It is smoother than smoking and much better for your lungs.
Although delta-8 is a relatively new product, the vaporizer industry is booming due to the popularity of other cannabinoids such as CBD and delta-9 THC. Delta-8 carts can be used with the same devices as long as the cartridge is compatible.
Standard 510 threading is used by most cartridges (the threading should appear on the device side).
For those who have Juul vaporizers or other proprietary vape pens, finding delta-8 cartridges that fit your device will be more challenging.
5. DELTA-8 DISTILLATE
You will find Delta-8 distillates to be the purest form.
All but pure delta-8 are removed in order to make this product. The texture is thick and resinous, and when heated, becomes more fluid.
Because delta-8 is difficult to obtain in its purest form, even the best-grade concentrates contain trace amounts of CBC, CBG, CBN, and CBD.
Distillates can be added to the reservoir of a refillable vape pen, dabbed in a dab rig, or eaten directly.
